Umma Hani Tanmoy is a graduate student in George Mason University and working as a GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) in department of Information Sciences and Technology. Currently she's working in Center for Secure Information Systems lab under the supervision of Professor Massimiliano Albanese. Her research adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines principles of knowledge engineering, network science, natural language processing, and cybersecurity.

 

Prior coming to GMU, she had been working in tech industry for 3 years after finishing her bachelor's in Information Technology from Monroe College, New York. She is a highly motivated graduate student who aspire to become an impactful leader by actively seeking ways to grow her potential and by creating an inclusive environment for others around her. Being an international student and a first-generation college graduate, she would really like to see others succeed in her community and show the world that there can be something more than someone who came from the same background as them, and is able to succeed and give back to the world. 

 

Umma has been awarded the GHC Scholarship of the 2022 Grace Hopper Celebration from Sep 20-23.
